Talking this last week with people who are or have been in abusive relationships has raised a question about sickness.
I popped a post in the “Be Kind. no Excuses” Facebook group the other day that said:
Abusive ex: “I gave you the world”
No actually, you gave me PTSD and fibromyalgia.
There were immediate responses in agreement.
This got me thinking (what’s new!) about all the women I have met who have constantly been backwards and forwards to their GPs for help with depression, anxiety, pain, stress……and on and on.
Is there a correlation between domestic abuse and physical illness? There MUST be. The constant feeling of anxiety. The walking on egg-shells. The anticipation of the sound of the keys in the lock and not knowing who is coming through the door – Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde?
All put a strain on our systems.
You think that if we stop this abuse before it gets a chance to start, we might save the nation millions of £s?
These a just a couple of the responses:
“Haha did make give an ironic chuckle. And actually chronic fatigue but you know, potato potaaaato”
“It’s something I really struggle with. I have been out of the relationship 10 years now, yet due to the PTSD and fibromyalgia he is still causing me pain”
Perhaps the government need to look at where the money would best be spent? Education to teach respect or tablets to help us cope with disrespect?
What do you think?
